Vaqacun comes from the tribe where the Paiwan and the Amis coexist in Taitung. His father is Paiwan and his mother is Amis. When he was young, he went with his parents to live in a big city in western Taiwan. Due to cultural differences and ignorance of each other’s ethnic groups, there were many conflicts, and he realized that he had a different identity from others. He participated in an Indigenous dance troupe during school, specializing in Indigenous traditional singing and dancing, and also learned the drums without a teacher. He is now the backing vocalist and drummer of the “Izua Band”, and has been invited to perform with different singers many times. He has a great sense for music and strong creative energy, and is good at presenting emotions through rhythmic performances.
After working with many aboriginal musicians, he realized that he didn’t know much about his own culture, so he began to look for rhythm instruments and traditional rhythms that belonged to his own ethnic group. The combination of music makes traditional culture heard by more people in a different way.
